Site & context analysis
Review the site, its interfaces and the surrounding street pattern, together with the planning controls that apply.
Urban design and planning input that responds to place, guides development and supports a clear planning case. From our Melbourne base, we work on projects across SA, QLD, VIC and NSW.
Good urban design starts with the site and its surroundings. We look at built form, street character, movement, solar access and neighbourhood context, and translate them into practical design directions for a development application or a wider planning strategy.
Review the site, its interfaces and the surrounding street pattern, together with the planning controls that apply.
Test heights, setbacks and building proportions in a 3D model, so that options can be compared before the design is fixed.
Prepare shadow diagrams that show how a proposal affects neighbouring properties and public space.
Summarise the findings in clear drawings and written guidance for the project team and the planning submission.
The level of analysis depends on the project. We agree the scope before work begins.
For an individual site, urban design looks at how the proposal fits its street and neighbourhood: building height and setbacks, the relationship to neighbouring properties, access and movement, and the quality of the spaces between buildings. We use 3D modelling and shadow diagrams to test these questions and present the results in drawings that can support a development application.
We are based in Melbourne and work on projects across SA, QLD, VIC and NSW. Planning controls and application requirements differ between states and councils, so we confirm the relevant requirements for each project before we start.
Send the property address, a short description of the proposal and any existing drawings, survey or council correspondence. We review the information and confirm the scope, deliverables and fee before any work begins.
